Central City Concern Workers Join Oregon AFSCME

PORTLAND, Ore. – In a powerful move towards strengthening the voice of employees and enhancing the services provided, unrepresented workers at Central City Concern voted to join their union siblings in Oregon AFSCME Local 88.

“Unionizing for me is a simple matter of being part of something that improves our collective voice as workers providing us the power to advocate for better benefits and higher wages. By organizing a union, we have the power to make positive changes in our workplace” said Kevin Luyamba, an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator with Central City Concern.

Oregon AFSCME intends to get all represented CCC employees under one contract and will sit down with CCC management in the coming weeks to start that process. In the meantime, workers will participate in bargaining surveys and elect a bargaining committee made up of current union members and those newly represented.
